Moving to Substack
Here we go!
It was suggested to me I try out Substack.
So, here we go.
My original intention for the newsletter was to market my artwork, however, pretty much immediately it became simply about writing. I have been using Mailchimp - but noticed that sometimes it was marked as a promotional email - and that felt wrong.
Although I’m still trying to sell art - that’s not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about the ongoing attempt to make sense of being alive and sentient by making art.
What will change with Substack?
It’s a website of written posts, so the past letters are accessible.
The format is basic - but only somewhat expandable.
I can still put in photos, but I can’t put in colorful text blocks or even change the fonts. Oh well.
You can leave comments. I’d like that.
It’s going to take me a while to figure out the interface from my end. But I believe I was able to migrate the addresses and also import the older posts.
What’s going on with the artwork?
These are some of the new pieces I’ve been working on. It’s been a long process, however, I have been making progress and I’m happy with the work.
I am just painting on the ceramics and trying to not try too hard - just relying on all of what I’ve learned over time - and work without getting too involved in directing it. I’ve quieted some of the internal dialogue that sometimes wrecks havoc with painting - and everything else. Shhh, inner critic! Let me know if I’m running a red light, but otherwise, chill.

As I’ve mentioned in past letters, I am making a large set as a commission - cups, bowls, and other sized plates are on the way. Most of them are already made and are ready to glaze.
I’ll not deny I want to sell art - what else is there to do with it all?
The holidays are coming up. Let me know if there is anything you’d like. I’ll put more up as it comes out of the kiln.
Dang, my bullet journal fell apart!
I went notebook shopping so I could restart, but then spent some time fussing about which one to get - and finally just picked one to start again. I made a couple of drafts, and it got expanded and I ended up with something more specific and useful. There is still a lot of stuff in the other note book, but I can “thread” back to it - and just redo the big stuff like the calendar.
Maybe, like the new notebook, changing formats at this point might serve a purpose. Will it make me more intentional?
We’ll give it a whirl and see how it goes. Let me know what you think.
Oh look, a leave a comment button. Will it work?

Good to hear from you! Those plates are gorgeous, I love how you’ve composed them. Like looking out a small window to see just a portion of a larger garden.
